What is powersearching?
It is learning to use the search engine tools wisely so you can get the most pertinent information quickly.
Why should we use it?
The Bible teaches us to use our time wisely. It also encourages us to be diligent in our work and to strive for excellence.
What is a Search Engine? How does it work?

All search engines are not created equal. Let's compare 4 popular ones.

We will use Google for an example of a search engine with lots of choices.
Search engines can be useful to locate information quickly when doing research. But the more limits you can put on your search, the closer you will get to finding exactly what you need. You can save lots of time by learning to use the advanced tools on the search engine.
Google Advanced Search:
You can set certain preferences on your searches. These will remain fixed on the computer you are using until you change them.

Assignment:
Conduct 5 internet searches on the topic of your choice.
1. Start a new blog post. Include a heading and the title: Powersearching.
Use these titles:
Topic Initial Search Advanced Search Steps to Limit Search
2. Do an initial search for your broad topic at www.google.com
3. Look to the upper right and copy/paste how many hits Google (search engine) found.
4. Go to advanced search -- add your qualifiers -- search again.
5. Look to the upper right and copy/paste how many hits Google (search engine) found. Your Number should be significantly lower!!
6. Explain briefly the steps you took to get a more concise search. See sample below but of course do not copy :)
Your paper should look something like this:
