Bible Based Digital Citizenship - ELEMENTARY
The World Wide Web is a wonderful place, full of free learning tools and information that no previous generation has known. With the invention of the interactive WEB 2.0 environments, we can now interact “live” with people far away almost as if they were with us in the same room. But along with the great advantages comes the ability for these tools to be used for evil purposes. Becoming aware of the dangers of the internet and learning to be safe on-line are an important part of the computer training that we give to students here at Calvary Murrieta.
At our school, we have three lines of defense against the misuse of the internet. The first is a mechanical filter. All of our computers are connected through a server which has a filter called Websense. Any material deemed obscene or dangerous is made inaccessible because of our filter. The second is our adult supervision. A teacher must be present in the room and available for instruction while any student is using the internet. The third defense is the instruction on Digital Citizenship that we give the student which empowers him to make wise choices. We teach the student how to use the internet wisely, how to be aware of the dangers, and what to do should he encounter an unexpected situation.
We use the material here to introduce and teach many topics on Digital Citizenship at all levels. Junior High and High School topics can be accessed by clicking HERE.
Below is an outline of what we introduce to your children at each grade level in the Elementary School.
